The Schwarzwald-Baar Klinikum relies on modern processes - also in IT support. The use of cora has created a flexible 24/7 solution for automated hardware issue that relieves the IT team and efficiently supports employees in their day-to-day work at the hospital.

The Schwarzwald-Baar Klinikum in Villingen-Schwenningen is an academic teaching hospital of the University of Freiburg and, with around 3,300 employees and 1,000 beds, is one of the largest non-university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg. The new building, which opened in 2013, was constructed with the aim of providing state-of-the-art medical infrastructure while enabling efficient processes.

Modern & digital for efficient processes

With cora, Schwarzwald-Baar Klinikum is digitising its IT asset issue and sustainably increasing efficiency in IT support.

Initial situation

The hospital’s IT support team was faced with increasing demands and a growing need for 24/7 availability. The manual issuing of IT assets such as power adapters, toner cartridges, mice and batteries for DECT phones led to frequent disruptions in the IT team’s day-to-day work. Every single hardware issue had to be processed manually, which was time-consuming and resource-intensive. There was a desire to provide staff with a flexible solution that was available at all times, without having to tie up additional staff resources.

The search for a high-performance solution to these challenges began. From the outset, it was clear that the hospital’s chosen path of implementing innovative self-service processes should be consistently pursued. Even patient registration in the reception area of the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic is already carried out digitally and efficiently via self-service terminals.

Implementation

The hospital soon came across cora during its research. Following an evaluation, it soon became clear that cora met all the requirements for deployment at the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic. Of particular importance was the ability to seamlessly connect cora to the Matrix42 ITSM system used by the SBK. Thanks to a dedicated extension, cora can be fully integrated into Matrix42 within minutes, without the need for complex integration involving extensive programming.

The smart IT vending machine was strategically placed in the hospital's new building and covers the following use cases

  • Self-service issue of IT assets such as power supply units, toners, mice and batteries

  • Rental of meeting hardware and notebooks

  • Return of devices via an integrated return tray

  • Management and issue of keys for training rooms

The implementation went smoothly and the IT team was closely supported throughout the process. Thanks to the professional approach of cora Customer Success Management, the effort for Schwarzwald-Baar Klinikum was efficient and reduced to a minimum.
