With the introduction of two cora machines, commIT has rethought IT support for the cities of Aarau and Baden. The smart IT terminals enable employees to provide self-service around the clock - automated, securely documented and fully integrated into the existing IT environment. The implementation was carried out together with our partner Aveniq, which uses cora as part of its service portfolio.

As an organisation under public law, commIT is responsible for the operation and support of the ICT systems of Aarau and Baden. The aim of the project was to increase service availability, automate manual processes and at the same time create sustainable IT operating structures.

Smart IT support around the clock

The vending machines in Aarau and Baden are available 24/7 and enable IT equipment to be obtained quickly and securely - without any waiting times or personnel costs.

Fully integrated and expandable

The solution is integrated into the existing system landscape and can be customised - from classic issues to creative application scenarios such as project gifts.

Efficiency meets sustainability

The IT butlers reduce internal journeys and improve the use of resources - from optimised processes to active support for the company-wide sustainability strategy.

Initial situation before the introduction

commIT was looking for a solution to meet the increasing demands in IT support and to be able to deploy its own resources in a more targeted manner.

  • Manual issue and return processes tied up valuable capacities

  • The desire for flexible IT services available at all times was growing

  • Sustainability and efficiency needed to be more strongly integrated into day-to-day operations

  • Providing IT at two locations posed additional logistical challenges

Implementation

The two cora terminals were put into operation at the Aarau and Baden locations and support classic IT use cases such as device replacement, returns or initial equipment for new admissions. Employees operate the machines intuitively via a touch panel - access is secure via badge, PIN or barcode.

cora is directly connected to the existing system landscape via open interfaces and can be flexibly integrated into existing processes. The connection to the software distribution (e.g. SCCM) makes it possible to update and personalize devices in the background and equip them with the necessary software packages - ready for use as soon as they are removed.

Creative uses are also possible: for example, the vending machines can be used for secure internal handovers between part-time employees or to provide small gifts for staff.

"The IT terminals not only help us to combine support and sustainability - they also bring digital working methods to where they are needed: directly to our employees."

Successes

The two cora terminals enable a new form of IT support: efficient, independent of opening hours and with a positive user experience. Employees can obtain the devices they need quickly and easily without having to make a support appointment.

At the same time, the burden on the IT organisation has been greatly reduced. Instead of routine activities, the focus is now on strategic issues. The sustainability goals also benefit: Fewer journeys and clearly structured processes ensure more environmentally friendly operations.

Conclusion: With the introduction of cora, commIT has taken an important step towards automated IT services. The solution is flexible, intuitive to use and creates real added value for the administration, support team and employees.

Outlook

Following the successful deployment at two locations, commIT is already examining further scenarios for cora - as a building block for modern, user-orientated IT in the public sector.
