Automated warehouse management of IT assets with Smart Lockers

Warehouse management or inventory management of IT assets is essential for companies to ensure operational reliability. The right items must be available in sufficient quantities at all times.

Most companies have a storage room or cabinet for this purpose, in which high-quality and inexpensive IT assets such as laptops, headsets, mice or batteries are stored. Ideally, all items are documented, categorized and every entry and exit is logged. However, this process is laborious and requires constant monitoring. Inexpensive items in particular are often removed without documentation, which can lead to them suddenly being missing exactly when they are needed.

IT support, especially workplace support, has numerous tasks to deal with anyway. When employees spontaneously ask for IT assets, this is often done on an ad hoc basis so as not to delay operations. However, this process is not only inefficient, but also unnecessarily time-consuming.

The solution: automated warehouse management with a Smart Locker

A Smart Locker can remedy this by automating the entire warehouse management process and freeing the IT support team from this task. When the items are stored for the first time, the Smart Locker records the weight of the assets and, thanks to floor scales, knows the exact stock in each compartment at all times.

The management of the warehouse can also be fully automated using intelligent rules. For example, threshold values can be defined:

A rule could specify that there must always be at least 10 keyboards in stock. If the stock falls to this value, an action is automatically triggered. This action can be a notification to IT support, or even smarter: the Smart Locker can be integrated directly into the procurement system and independently trigger orders from suppliers.
